Missing Search Ability

I am running a HP Pavilion laptop with windows XP SP3 and Office 2007.
Some how I have lost the ability to search in windows explorer. I click on
the button but nothing happens. Does anyone know how to get the search button
working again? Please help.

Thanks Elmo. I tried this one. It did nothing that I can see. Besides, I
don't want or need the search companion. I just want to be able to search my
computer using Windows Explorer. Thanks again.
