Missing scheduled task?

Ok, one more problem to add to the list. I keep getting an error that Vista
can't start a scheduled task. When reviewing the Event log, it says
"Microsoft\Windows\Media Center\mcupdate" is the task that can't start. So I
open task scheduler, and immediately get an error "The task image is corrupt
or has been tampered with.mcupdate". So far its not looking good right? So
then I navigate to Microsoft\Windows\Media Center, and there is no mcupdate
task. So I click "Show Hidden Tasks" on the view menu, and there is still no
mcupdate task.

My questions are: 1)What is mcupdate, and should I be concerned its not
running?; 2) Is there anyone who can post what should be in the mcupdate
task?; and 3) How can a task that is not showing anywhere in Task Scheduler
(hidden or not) be trying to run? Where else would you find Scheduled Tasks
in Vista?

I'm gonna answer my own question, in case anyone else has the same problem.
Apparently the registry keeps a cache of the names and ids of all scheduled
tasks. Some how a scheduled task named mcupdate got removed from my
computer, but not from the registry. When searching the registry, I found
the reference for this task in the registry under Task Scheduler->Cache
(sorry, I don't remember the whole path, but I think it was in HKLM) and
deleted it. This has stopped both the event list error, and the error that
occurs when you start Task Scheduler.

How I fixed it both in the mcupdate error in both the Task Sceduler and in
Vista Media Center.

I had this error for about a month and did a few hours of searching and
could not find a fix to the problem. What I did find was many other propel
having the same problem.

The mcupdate fails when seting up the live TV settings and then entering the
Task Sceduler you will get the message "The task image is corrupt has been
tampered with.mcupdate".

I did a search for mcupdate and found two mcupdate.exe.

I executed both and received an stop error.

The problem was fixed. It must force a re-set.

Hmmm... I'll have to try that. Later, I also found the folder where tasks
are located. Its in Windows\System32\Tasks. The folder follows the same
structure as the task scheduler snap-in. If you have a similar task problem
you can delete it from there, without the registry hack I had to perform. I
haven't had any problems with either Media Center or my computer since doing
it, so I can't imagine mcupdate being that important of an operation. Have
you figured out what it does?

Sure, mcupdate.exe is the updating program in Window Media Center. I used the
method 2x. I did a complete system restore and needed to fix it again. I
would try this simple method before I made any system or registry changes.
