missing resolution

I booted up (XP pro) the other day to find that my normal resolution (1280 x
1024) was down to 1024 X 768. When I checked the Display Properties, that had
become the maximum available resolution.

I have an SiS onboard graphics chip, and a BenQ FP731 17" LCD monitor.

I tried selecting super VGA (at 1280 X 1024), but it still wasn't available
in Display Properties. So I'm stuck with big, blurry images and text.

Before this happened, I briefly disconnected and reconnected the monitor
while the computer was running. Everything seemed OK, however, until I booted
up the next time. Not sure if that was the cause of the problem.

I don't know, but try this?

Where you select resolution, go to advanced settings, monitor tab and
uncheck "Hide unsuitable settings"(???read sig)

Locate and install/update the SiS onboard graphics driver. Also, update to
the latest motherboard chipset drivers and BenQ drivers (if any). A
resolution of 1280 x 1024 is not a "standard" XP resolution and you need the
correct drivers.

Hi guys.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions.

I didn't try them because soon after posting, my old resolution just as
suddenly and mysteriously reappeared! (Haunted computer?)
