Missing or Corrupt file

My OS is XP. We lost electricity today and when my computer came back up I got the following message:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<windows root>\system\ntoskrnl.exe
Please reinstall a copy of the above file.

I renamed <c:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe> to <c:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.old> and expanded the <ntoskrnl.ex_> file from the XP cd into <windows\system32>

No help.

I also did a bootcfg /rebuild

Again, No help.

Any suggestions?

May be redundant, but possible further clues here...

Thanks Dev,
I had actually been to your page and the other page you suggested. I'm going to try the repair/install like estekguy did and let it run overnight.
Other than that I don't know what to do.
Thanks for your reply.
