Missing or corrupt file needed to start windows xp

Annette

I tried to start Windows XP on my computer and a message
came up that read something of the following:

Windows could not be started because the following file is
missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows
Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the
first screen to start repair.

This would be ok except I recieved Windows XP with the
purchase of my computer and did not recieve any such CD-
ROM. There is nothing I can think to do! Help please!

Check with your proveedor, sometimes they put all the
files to reinstall in the hard drive!!
