Missing ntfs.sys file and invalid admin password

When I start my computer I get an error that I am missing
System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys. I've booted my computer using the windows xp setup
disc and entered repair mode to try to correct this problem. When I enter
repair mode it prompts me for the administrator password. I enter the
password but it tells me my password is invalid. I am positive this is the
correct password. I have recently installed service pack 2 and am not sure if
the computer has booted correctly since then or not, although this may have
nothing to do with the problem. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks for the response. The second link does not work, however. Will the
boot cd allow me to somehow bypass the administrator password to enter
recovery console?

You would have to try it to know. If that is not available, I don't know
another source. Perhaps installing xp to a new folder, and 'taking
ownership' would allow repair, or at least recovery of data.
