Missing “Make Available Offline” option

N

necm500

On my desktop computer running XP Pro, I have “enable offline files”
option properly turned on. In addition, there is a network-shared
folder in “My Network Places” folder. Furthermore, in my little home
network, my laptop (running XP home) can access the files in the
shared folder located on the desktop without a glitch.

Now on the desktop, supposedly by right-clicking the mouse on a file
or folder, the option of “Make Available Offline” should appear on the
list of options, but for some inexplicable reasons, I can’t find it on
my computer.

I’ve gone as far as running “gpedit.msc”, manually set Computer
Configuration >Administrative Templates > Network > Offline
Files>Allow or Disallow use of offline files to “enabled”. All to no
avail. Still can’t see “Make Available Offline”.

I’m literally at my wit’s end. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the link, but I'm not sure if it relates to my problem per
se. The only referene to offline file is "Offline Favorites--Offline
Favorites and Scheduled Offline Favorites have been removed from
Internet Explorer 7." My woe is that I can not make ANY file offline
since "make available offline" option is mysteriously missing.

Pleeez, somebody help!!!

I doubt going through the trouble of uninstalling IE7 is worth a try,

Er..., uh, that thread dates from 2001 when IE6 *and* WinXP were in beta,

Were *you* having this problem when *you* were running IE6? (I'd doubt it.)

Dood, you were suggesting to uninstall ie7 as if ie7 was the cause. I
was simply showing you that same thing happened with ie6, so ie7 is
unlikely the culprit. You've made the same suggestion on the same
topic on a number of occasions, no one seemed to have benifited from
your insight.
