Missing - Local USers and Groups

I am sure I am in over my head. Somehow the Local Users and Groups
page form Computer management is no longer available. I get an error
which states:

unable to access the computer xxxx. The error was: Invalid Syntax.

Can anyone explain how I can restore all of my security settings back
to normal or to the installed defaults? The system is running XP Pro
(actually Media Center) and is not part of a network. It is configured
with only one user.

Try going to Start/Run, to type: GPEDIT.MSC

GPEDIT.msc works but that is different from lusrmgr.msc isn't it?

Try starting a new MMC console by going to Start -> Run -> "mmc". This will
bring up a blank console. Go to File -> Add/Remove Snap-In and click Add...

From the list, select local users and groups, from the dialog box that
appears select Local Computer. Clcik finish and the console window should
display properly. If this doesn't work it could suggest an underlying problem.
