Missing Icon in Control Panel

I run Windows XP SP1/Home Edition and IE6. While cleaning my PC from parasites I inadvertently damaged IE6, together with a couple of other things. So, if I now go "Start">"Control Panel">"Network and Internet Connections", I only have "Network Connections" but "Internet Connection" icon has gone AWOL! 24/7 later and thanks to the help of some of the contributors to these pages I believe I managed to re-install IE6 but the "Internet Connection" doesn't want to come back. Does anybody know how to get the missing icon back?

In the mean time, although IE6 is still not working, I can thankfully surf the Internet (and write this message) through AOL and my Firefox browser.

You can access the applet by typing "inetcpl.cpl" in the Start -> Run dialog. Not sure how to
restore it to control panel.

Lots of good info on IE here:

Lots of google matches for "contol panel missing cpl"....

Hi Alex,

If you have TweakUI installed go to the Control Panel Tab and make sure
inetcpl.cpl is checked. http://tinyurl.com/h8zs

If it is listed here in the right pane, delete it: Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\don't load

Somehow with yours and Kelly's advice I managed to get the missing icon back. It is the 2nd time that .cpl files were of help (and other tricks!). Re: Kellys-Korner, I totally agree - absolutely brilliant. I discovered it a week ago and has been popping in every day

Many Thks again - I only have to figure out now the the way to make IE6 work, but there is plenty of time... Alex_R

Hi, Kelly
Many thks for your help - I've got the Control Panel back in order, now it is a question of how to make IE6 work - at present it takes enormous amount of time to load a page - eternity and a day- while networking diagnostics returns "passed" and other browsers are working properly

PS You run an absolutely brilliant site - great help and fantastic source of knowledge and information. Have been cherry picking it for a week now - just fantastic!
Kind Rgds, Alex_R

Many thanks for you kind words, Alex. :o)

As for your issue, without knowing more, run the cleaners listed on line 308
and good luck! http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Hi, Kell
I am not sure what line 308 means? As for the IE6 problem, I have another thread called "How to repair IE6 when connected through AOL", where I printed extracts from my diagnostics test and bits from System Info. Would appreciate greatly if you could have a quick look at it?! P-l-e-a-s-e!!
Many Thanks,
Alexei,

By line 308, she means go to her site and click and run line 308

You know, I've been reading the info from this great sight for nearly a week now yet never noticed the line numbers

Many thanks again, Alexe
