Missing help files

I have no text in my help. There is nothing listed in the index. The folder
"helpfiles" on my hard drive is empty.
I went to the suggested Kelly's korner site and tried to run the first
fix. I got stuck on the second command "cd \d windir\pchealth\helpctr". It
tells me the path is not found. Am I looking for this file on my hard drive
or on my windows CD? The windows CD (Dell) is a maze and I don't see a
directory for windows on it.
I'm not even sure this is the right fix for my problem. The easiest thing
would be to reload Windows, but because of all the updates (I assume), when I
try to reload Windows, it says the version I am trying to load is older than
the one I have. Any advice out there that's more specific than all the
possible fixes at Kelly's Korner? Or advice on what directory I'm looking for
in the fix referred to in my last paragraph? Thanks for any help you can give
me. T. Roberts

I tried that one (first I clicked on the right listing - oops) Now when I try
to start help, it says windows can't fins "helpctr.exe". Now how do I get
that file back?

This fix leaves me with the same question - In the second line of step II it
says "cd /d %windir%\pchealth\helpctr". Am I looking for this file on the
Windows CD? As I said before, I don't see a directory specifically for
windows on my dell windows CD.

I'm sorry. My finger doesn't obey me today.
Try this: Put the XP CD in the drive. Start>Run and type in (always without the quotes): "cmd" <hit Enter>. Inm the new screen type:
"D:" <Enter>
"cd i386" <Enter>
"expand helpctr.ex_ c:\windows\pchealth\helpctr\binaries\helpctr.exe" <Hit enter>

The file expanded, but apparently it's not where Windows wants it. I have
recovered my Help files, however, and would like to post what I did for other
users.
I found "C:\Windows\inf\pchealth.inf" on my hard drive and right-clicked,
then chose "install". The installation asked for my SP2 CD. I have none, but
I do have a file for the SP2 installation that was done automatically online.
I went to that and it ran a bit, then came to a file it couldn't use in the
SP2 file. I switched to my Windows installation CD and it found it there and
continued to a successful end.
My conclusion is that the SP2 download had a corrupted file in it that
caused my Help to disable. I am torn about automatic upgrades. I want to be
up to date, but this isn't the first time that upgrades have interfered with
my computer's functionality. Frustrating stuff! :) Thanks for trying to
help, guys. Toni

Am I looking for this file on the Windows CD?

Nope. On the hard drive. %Windir% implies Windows folder.

Well I was right with you Toni until you hit the "install" word. There is no
"install" option when you right click on that file. I am still without help
files. I hate these things! Lol!
