Missing HD Space after demote?

We had a Windows 2000 Domain controller that also runs IIS. But it ran out
of C:\ partition HD space, so to free up some HD space, we demoted the DC.
This occured without any problems. Did this 17 hours ago, but since then,
no HD space has freed up. The C:\ partition is about 4GB. But about 2.5GB
of space is still missing. 50MB of free space left.

Is this space stil 'taken' in the Sysvol & NTDS folders? Do I have to
defrag the C:\ to get this space back? Is there a utility I have to run to
recover this space?

Thanks

Unless you have a very large network, I don't think the Sysvol and NTDS
folders will take up a lot of space. Even with a large network, I can't
imagine Sysvol and the NTDS database taking up any kind of serious space. I
would not think a Demotion would free up that much space.

What do you mean by 'missing' space?

Defrag does not free space.

Well the 'missing space' is really 2.5GB of c:\ space taken up by SysVol and
NTDS folders. I thought that, since the server is no longer a domain
controller, this used space would return back to the c:\ drive as free space.

So what am I missing?

Thanks
