missing GENERAL page in properties

Hope someone has an answer,
I have tried uninstallaing and reinstalling but,I open
the INTERNET OPTIONS and the GENERAL PAGE is missisng.
Anyone ever seen this before? Please help

Sounds like you've been hijacked.

1. Get and run an updated version of a spyware program such as
Ad-Aware (www.lavasoftusa.com).

If you can't access the Lavasoft Website, then do the following:

1. Find the file called "hosts" (just hosts, with no extension).

2. Rename this file to something else, such as "oldhosts".

This should permit you to access antivirus and anti-malware Websites.

Can you still get all tabs when opening Internet Options in the Control
Panel? Have you installed any programs that allow you to restrict the
Internet Options applet, like Spybot?

- gpedit.msc
- User Config -> Admin Templates -> Win Components -> IE -> Internet
Control Panel.
- Disable the disables.

all the components work!!!! the only thing missing is the
GENERAL TAB in internet options, Sorry I should have been
more specific...I installed and ran adaware and removed
all the suspicious objects and ran McAffee AV "No Viri"
present. There is McAffee firewall and AV on this machine
running WindowsME with ALL THE UPDATES!!!!! Any other
Ideas? Maybe a registry setting that turned it off?

The use of gpedit.msc does update the registry for the applicable and
changed settings. However, it provides a safer interface when
configuring policies than having to edit the registry directly.

If all the components worked then you would see the General tab. So
what you mean by "components" is vague. Did you even try using the
group policy editor to see if disabling the disable(s) then let you see
and use the General tab? After changing this policy, was the General
tab still missing? Was it missing only when you access Internet Options
from within IE? Or was it also missing when you ran the Internet
Options applet in Control Panel? Did you try using msconfig.exe to
disable all startup programs and then edit the policy and recheck if you
can see the General tab?

I Don't think there is a group policy on a stand alone PC
running a WIN32 format with WindowsME I thought that was
only a component of NT based systems (i.e. WindowsXP,
2000 ect.) If it is there I sure can't find it, any other

You did not mention your version of Windows in your first post. I
missed your mention of Windows ME in your second post (my eyes are used
to seeing a space between the words when scanning).

From one of the many articles listed at http://snipurl.com/google4it, I
found some mentioning the
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control
Panel" registry key. I then did a search on this key (exact) phrase in
the advanced search at http://support.microsoft.com/ (all products) and
found:

A tab is missing in the Internet Properties dialog box
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=272449

Since my policies are "not configured" for all of these tabs, there is
no such key and no such subkeys (because you delete the keys to remove
policy restrictions). Although policies sound like something only
applicable under an NT-based version of Windows, this KB articles lists
Windows 9x/ME as the operating system versions. IE5.x is mentioned but
the same registry key probably gets used for IE6.

Google is your friend. Lots can be found by searching there and also
search at Microsoft's support page. Also, while I use Ad-Aware and
Spybot, be careful about what actions they perform to "fix" a problem.
Along with removing the crapware, they can also remove settings and
files that are required for the software.
