missing folder

In my docs and settings folder, I have a Default folder, All Users folder,
and DK (me).

There is no Cookie folder in DK or All Users; the only Cookie folder is in
the default folder, and that is empty. Every XP computer I have seen has one.
What worries me is that if the Cookie folder is missing, what else is missing?

I use Cookie Pal and it shows I have many cookies, but not where they are.
My computer shows hidden folders.

How can I find out where my cookies are? I am hungry.

I know nothing about Cookie Pal, but I would suspect that it has intruded
somewhere that it shouldn't have.

Start | Run | Type: cookies | Click OK
That should open C:\Documents and Settings\DK\Cookies

So should
Start | Run | Type: %userprofile%\cookies | Click OK

Do a Search for: DK@ or DK@*.txt

Cookies have filenames similar to (e-mail address removed)

Thank you, Wes.

As you knew, both "run" commands took me to Docs & Sets\david\cookies.

Now can you tell me how to put that and any other folders back where they
belong?

Looks like your Cookies folder is where it belongs. The question is whether
or not it is Hidden.

Start | Run | Type: cookies | Click OK |

Click the Folders icon on the Toolbar to display the Folders pane.

Right click on the Cookies folder in the left hand pane (Folders pane) and
click on Properties.

On the General tab of Cookies Properties under Attributes, is Hidden grayed
out or does it have a checkmark in the box?

Thank you again, Wes and we are almost there.

Hidden is BOTH checked and greyed out.

In folder options, I have show hidden files and folders checked. Does this
mean something is wrong?

David,

Your Cookies folder should have just the System attribute (S).

Start | Run | Type: %userprofile% | Click OK |

C:\Documents and Settings\david should open.
If you are not in Details view, click View and click on Details.
Click View, Choose Details, check the box for Attributes and click OK.
The Cookies folder should have an S in the Attributes column.

What does yours have?

OK, Wes,

First, when I do %userprofile% I get to the right folder, but there is no
cookie folder. So I tried Run/cookie and when it opened, on the left side
where it says Details, the attribute of the cookie folder is Hidden. Just for
fun, I clicked on the Local Settings folder, and its attribute is Hidden.
Even the Send To folder is Hidden. There is no Temp Int Files folder.

Do you make house calls?

David, this is what the path to your cookies folder should look like.

C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Herel\Cookies
same thing as %userprofile%\Cookies

Cookies should not be under Local Settings and the Local Settings folder
does have the Hidden attribute, so anything down stream is also Hidden.

C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Herel\Local Settings

I have had something, I have no idea what, create a Cookies folder, a
Temporary Internet Files folder and a History folder under Local
Settings\Temp.

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp

SendTo does have the Hidden attribute. This should open it...
Start | Run | Type: sendto | Click OK

Paste into Start | Run...

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

Wes,

I was able to get to the temp int files folder by your run command, but like
cookies, in the folder properties, hidden is greyed out. As I said
originally, what worries me is that something more serious is wrong with the
whole Windows program. Isn't there a way to uncheck the hidden attribute?
Didn't there used to be a DOS command?
