I had to remove some viruses from my Win 2000 system, one
or more of which appeared to masquerade as system files in
the WINNT and System32 directories. Though I now appear to
be virus free, I am having other symptoms of a gradual
system slowdown over several hours to a bare crawl even
though the TaskMgr says the CPU is idle almost all the
time. I suspect that I may have deleted a system file,
or????? Is there any way for me to manually or
automatically check to see if all the necessary Windows
files are in those directories, or to reload them?

On the other hand, if anyone has suggestions about
diagnosing other problems that may cause the system
slowdown, please let me know.

Thanx, --Lynn

You can run
sfc /scannow
to replace the files.
