explorer cannot access c:\winnt\system32

c:\winnt\system32 just dissapeared from explorer, the only way for me to
access the directory is in DOS mode.
the problem is that now I cannot install anything (drivers, programs)
because when they try to access %system32% the system just doesnt allow it.
I log as administrator, but I dont know what to do now.
