We saved some work files for transfer into the root of
one of our work station computers. We didn't transfer
the files immediatley. Well we came in the next day to
get those files and they were gone. Please tell me XP
doesn't delete everything in the Root of C when
rebooted. Is there a place that XP stores these files?

Hi

What kind of files are you referring to? Data files? Have you tried a search via Windows Explorer for the names of those files that you have saved? Saving files to the root folder of any system isn't advisable.

we lost 4 .fla files (flash presentations) and 1 jpg.
They are just gone...we did searchs for them and nothing
came up

Hi

If you have searched Windows for *.fla files and found nothing, then I would suggest that they have gone. Try the following from a C:\ command:

dir *.fla /a/s

Still no files....Why would xp delete files out of the
root!

Hi

Did you shut down the PC between saving the files and going back to them? They shouldn't have been deleted. .fla files are Macromedia Flash Movies files - yes?

Did you check to see if the files were there after you
saved them? I have had this happen when I meant to put them
in a certain place but the location got changed
somehow(probably just my inattention) before they were
saved. Now I always check to see if they are really there
after saving. This has also happened to some of our users
when they are working in a Citrix session. They think they
are putting them in the root of C but they were actually
putting them in the root of C on the Citrix server.
