Missing File Types

Guest

Hello,

I'm using Access XP SP3 on a Windows 2000 Pro SP4 box.
When I try to import external data, the only files types listed are:

MS ACCESS .mdb, .adp, .mda, .mde, .ade
XML .xml, .xsd
ODBC

I'm missing the following types:

DBASE5, DBASE III, DBASE IV
XLS
EXCHANGE
HTML
LOTUS 123
OUTLOOK
PARADOX
TXT
CSV
TAB
ASC

How do I resolve this so I can view all file types mentioned? I've already
tried a complete uninstall, Offcln.exe & re-install and nothing changed.

Thank you.

Hi, Bob.

You'll probably need to edit your Windows Registry to include the list of
ISAM drivers. Please see the Microsoft KB article on the following Web page:

Hi Gunny,

I actually saw that article but it didn't help. I found all the DLL files
in the following directories:

C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DLLCACHE

However, when I searched the registry, I don't have the "Engine" key or the
various subkeys listed at all. I even tried a detect & repair on my brand
new install and no change.

Hi, Bob.

various subkeys listed at all.

You have an incomplete installation of Office. This usually happens when
the user trying to install the application doesn't have Windows Administrator
permissions to write keys in the Registry. First, try to re-register the DLL
files. If that doesn't help, then uninstall/reinstall MS Office while logged
in as a Windows Administrator.

To re-register your libraries, click Windows Start, and then click Run. Use
the following command (all one line):

Regsvr32.EXE "C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\Msexcl40.dll"

.. . . then press <ENTER>. Do the same with all files listed in the KB
article.

Just use regsvr32.exe to register the files. The ones for Access 2002 should
be:

Msexcl40.dll (Microsoft Excel)
Msexch40.dll (Microsoft Exchange)
Msltus40.dll (Lotus 1-2-3)
Mspbde40.dll (Imprise Paradox)
Mstext40.dll (Text)
Msxbde40.dll (Dbase)

The problem's discussed in http://support.microsoft.com/?id=209805

I confirmed the user account used to reinstall has Local Admin permissions.
I will try to register the DLL's as you recommended.
Since I used an account other than the built In Admin account but with Admin
permissions, are you still recommending a reinstall using the built in local
admin account if registering the Dll's doesn't work?

Thanks....
