Missing file from Windows Explorer Drag and Drop

I was moving files from one folder to another using the drag and drop feature
of Windows Explorer when I dropped the file on the edge of the folder list
rather than in the actual folder. When I looked for the file it was neither
in the original folder or the target folder. I did a full search for the
file and it was nowhere in my system. It had completely disappeared.

The only thing I can think of is that it was sitting in the clipboard and
then I overwrote it on my next "cut and paste".

Can anyone shed any light on this mystery? It is a replaceable file, but
I'm concerned this might be an indication of some inherent instability in my
system.

Thanks

A nice utility, but it didn't find my file. Alas, I think my file has sailed
off into the ether.

Thanks for your help.

I think that is a good assumption.

I have unknowingly deleted files, shrug, and then gone looking for them
later and never found them. I did that just the other day and I am still
wondering what happened. ;-)

Its like an envelope that gets knocked off your desk into the trash without
you noticing, the trash gets emptied, the trash removal service picks up the
trash and hauls it away, two days later you turn the house upside down
looking for the envelope. You never find it. And you never know what
happened to the envelope, except that it's gone.

Is the name of the file a secret?

In confused26 <[email protected]> hunted and pecked:

Did the search include Desktop and Recycle Bin, all partitions?
