Missing File Details - Metadata

A couple of days ago I noticed a really Weird problem with Windows Explorer,
and to date I have had absolutely no success tracing any reference to it on
any of the Tech or Support sites I know.
I am running XP Pro, all of my updates are current, and I recently installed
WMP11, which I am beginning to wonder may be somehow the cause of this
difficulty.
I have a great many mp3 files which have been correcly ID tagged using
Tag&Rename. Within Windows Explorer I have "Details" view set up to show a
variety of file metadata ie, duration, bitrate, artist, album etc.
Until a couple of days ago this all worked fine, but now although the
correct column headings are still displayed, the actual details in these
fields has dissappeared. The file tags are certainly still intact, and
strangely enough WMP itself will display all of the data within the library
view etc, but still Explorer refuses to show the same information.
It may well be some sort of bug within WMP11, but could anyone please
suggest any other likely causes of this problem, as it is driving me crazy at
present.
All help, advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You might want to check the media player newsgroup to see if anyone has
experienced this.

Thanks Rock.

Unfortunately that was my first port of call, and nobody over ther has any
suggestions to offer.

Any further suggestions / advice would therefore be much appreciated from
any other "sufferers".

Ah, sorry to hear that. No, I don't have anything to suggest at the moment.
Good luck.

Has there been any type of ACL ( Access Control Listing ) change
made recently. I'd Right Click a song and check the Security settings.
Also might want to use Summary (Advanced) to read the Metadata
on that particular file.
Within MP11, Tools, Options, Library - how is Automatic Media
Updates options set ?

Many thanks for the interest / suggestions.

Unfortunately, when I right click on the files I do not get any Security
information. Should there be an option in its own right, or should it appear
within Properties ?

Similarly, when I look at Advanced witihin Properties, there is no metadata
listed, although WMP itself reads & displays all of the data correctly.

Within WMP, it is set to "Retrieve Additional Information From The Internet,
Only Add Missing Information"

I can only hope that this information may offer you some additional clues as
to the origin of this irritating problem. If you require any further
feedback, please let me know.

Best Regards,

Intarest.

The Security (TAB) only appears on Windows XP professional. To
access that with Home edition requires you boot to Safe Mode. I
brought up a XP Home VPC and checked the Properties, Summary,
Advanced on a music module (.Wma) and was able to view the
Metadata.

As to reading the Metadata from within MP, I believe it is cached
inside the .wmdb (Database modules), not from the music modules.

Can't really think of other aspects to check, very unusual issue.

By default XP enables "Simple File Sharing". To view the Security
properties you'll need to uncheck/untic that option from Explorer,
Tools, Folder Options, View (TAB) - Scroll to the bottom of the
listing to location the option box.
