Missing fields in the Open Window

I'm running Word 2003 on Vista, and when I go to Open a document the Open
window has changed dramatically. It comes up full screen, rather than as a
dialog box, and the screen can't be sized. I have no idea why this is
happening.

The real problem is that when I change my view option to Details, none of
the normal fields (Date, Size, etc.) appear. As a result, I can't look for
the most recent version of similarly named documents without going to
Explorer.

If anyone knows why this is happening, and how to fix it, I'd appreciate the
help.

Thanks, Dan

You can restore it down by double-clicking the title bar. My guess is that
someone maximized it in an attempt to find the missing column headings, so
you may want to leave it maximized while you work on that problem.

First make sure that those columns are actually displayed: right-click on
the Name heading and see which fields are checked on the menu. If the ones
you're missing are not checked, check them. If they are checked, then
they're just out of sight. Can you see any line on the heading bar at all?
If so, drag it to the left. This may bring some of the other columns in
view. If not, you should get a size-adjust handle at the far right of the
heading bar (where it meets the vertical scroll bar), and you can drag that
to the left.

As always, Suzanne, you rock.

Never occurred to me to double-click the title bar, and you were absolutely
right about the fields not being checked. Didn't even know about that, and
can't imagine how it happened.

Thanks again. Love you!

Glad I could help. There are times when it's really cool to be able to
really open up those dialogs (I like it especially for the Select Recipients
dialog in mail merges). And you do know, don't you, that they're resizable?
Drag the bottom right corner to change the size.
