Turned on my computer yesterday and all of my Favorites
were gone! My friend played computer games the night
before, but says that she didn't do anything but play on
the Internet. I installed the XP updates last Wednesday
and I don't really know exactly when I lost the links;
maybe the two are related?? Any way to recover them??
Any explanation for what happened?

Internet Explorer Favorites are missing/empty

If not, please post the name/number of the update you installed.

Thanks for the help, Ramesh, but I'm not a tech so I was afraid to try what your article suggested (in fact, I don't know what HKEY is!). Instead, I did a *url search which found nothing so I guess that means my Favorites were somehow wiped out. I did a complete virus scan and nothing showed up. The Windows updates that I installed on my XP PRO system just before this happened were: KB835732/828741/837001/831167/837009. Meanwhile, I'm rebuilding my Favorites by adding them as I think of them; sure hope that this doesn't happen again!

No problem. However, that article will not help in this case as the .URL seems to be deleted from the system. That article applies in a scenario where the .URL files are intact, but the registry points to an incorrect location rather than the .URL files' location. BTW, do a search for *.URL and not just *URL.
