Hewre is an interesting issue: Running Pentium III 1 GB on Gigabyte Mobo;
512 PC133; Windows XP Pro with SP2. When booting all drives show up in my
computer. But when trying to access Nero Bruning Rom or Adaptec (I have
both), neither can execute although they show up as running in task mgr.

After closing the apps in task manager both the DVD-ROM and CD-RW disappear
in my computer while Nero and Adaptec begin to function!!!

Any diagnosis on this one would be appreciated!

Nero has to be updated to run under SP2 correctly. Use the button on the
opening Nero window to find upgrades. It has to be 6.3.125 or greater, if I
recall correctly.

I just updated the system to Ahead Nero's just released update 6.6.0.1 and I
still have the same problem of disappearing drives. On reboot the drives
appear but Nero still does not come up until the DVD-Rom and the CD-RW both
disappear!

Help!!

Those two do not always mix very well; their associated InCD and Direct
CD (now Drag to Disk) most certainly do not. This is probably conflict
of the Upper and Lower Filters that they use. What I would do is
uninstall both, then tidy up, get a registry patch file, cdgone.reg,
from www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it, r-click on it and
merge it into the registry

Then Install Nero, followed by Easy CD if you feel you need both. And
if you want a packet writing, install the InCD after Nero and before
Easy CD, leaving its other components out

Are both Nero's InCD and Adaptec's DirectCD installed?? If so, that might be
the problem. They don't like each other, so....

InCD is especially agressive. It has to be disabled for Virtual PC also
because of incorrect memory reporting.

I am not using InCD, nor Direct CD. What is installed now is just Nero
6.6.0.1. I have uninstalled Adaptec Easy CD Creator altogether, did a
registry clean with System Mechanic 4 and System Suite 5, checked for
viruses, ad-ware and spyware, or any other suspected malicious code and
still no go...

Could it be a hardware problem over all? I took both drives out and put
them in another system with Nero 6.3.1.6 running XP SP2 and had no problems.

If it is a system file, try Start>Run and type in the Open box "sfc
/scannow" but it may also be an unregistered dll or just a setting. Have
you tried Nero support?

Uninstalling Easy CD leaves hanging registry entries that a cleaner may
well miss. I have a registry file to tidy up, cdgone.reg, from
www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it, r-click on it and merge
it into the registry

You will then need to reinstall any burning software that you *do* use.
