missing/corrupt file xp won't start and computer keeps restarting

I had a virus awhile ago. I was able to correct the problem but is seems
that when the problem was fixed it either deleted or corrupted this file
<windowsroot>\system32\ntoshrnl.exe. it tells me windows could not be started
because this file is missing or corrupt. It also tells me to reinstall the
file from the disk but it doesn't work. I have tried some of the suggestions
in the how-to articles with no luck. I haven't tried to creat a boot disk
only because I can not get into my computer to do anything. The only other
computer I have access to is at work and I can not use it for something like
that. Does anybody have any ideas or know how to fix this? Please help!!
Thanks

Thanks for the info. I have tried to do that already and nothing happens.
Do you have any other ideas? I hope someone can help me fix this.
