Missing Contacts Folder in Outlook 2003 SP-3

C

C.W. Billow

I was/am setting up my Outlook on my new (Vista) machine.

I was going through removing all duplicate contacts, and placing tem in a
separate folder - Duplicate Contacts.

In the meantime I was setting up some o my views. In doing so, I mistakenly
selected names from the Duplicates folder to place in the "To" field as part
of the view definition.

Then, I believe that I deleted the Duplicates folder.

Now, when I go to these views, I get an error because the name designated in
the "To" field exists no more, since the folder itself is (apparently) gone.

But I canot seem to get rid of the link between the view and the Duplicates
folder and correctly tie it to the name in the Contacts folder.

Is there a way to fix this? And to remove the "Duplicate Contacts folder
from the Outlook "memory"?

Regards,
Chuck Billow

Clarify this statement by telling us what you actually did:
"I mistakenly selected names from the Duplicates folder to place in the "To"
field as part
of the view definition."
That option is not part of a view's definition.

Russ:
--------
I was going through all my contacts to remove duplicates. While so doing, I
moved duplicates I found to a folder named, conveniently, Contact Duplicates,
which I had set up as a contacts folder, and it therefore was showing for the
Contacts available in both the Contacts and in the To and From in my email.

After I was through, I then was going through and setting up rules for the
view (if from X color it red). That's fine, problem is, I mistakenly got some
of my names from the Contact Duplicates folder, not the Contacts.

I then, thinking I was through with the duplicates, either moved the folder
or deleted it, because now the names that were wrongly picked from that
folder are giving me errors.

And that folder is still showing as a choice when selecting names for email
etc. But I cannot find the bloody folder.

Could I have deleted it and still have it showing as a choice? If so, how
can I fix that?

Or, could it still be there and I'm just not finding it, in which case how
could I go about finding that folder?
---------

But i found it just this morning: The folder had been deleted, but for some
reason it was still listed in the "Directories and Address Books."

Once I deleted it from there, the problem went away.

Surprising they're not "linked" so that if I delete from one location it
doesn't resolve and match to the other.

Oh well...

Thanks though.

Chuck Billow

Indeed, it had nothing to do with how a view was defined.
Why not just remove the folder from the address book view?
