Recently, my system crashed and I had to restore everything. After lots of
editing and removing of duplicates, my Outlook 2007 contacts are now just the
way I want them. However, I notice that my Windows contacts folder is not
synched with it -- there are duplicate records and the creation dates are old.

How do I get my Windows contacts folder to synch with what is correct and up
to date from my Outlook contacts?

Why would you bother, seeing as you have Outlook?

Your operating system's address book has nothing to do with Outlook and
never has.

Outlook has never synchronized with the Windows Contacts.

Thanks to all of you who responded so quickly.

So all 3 comments make it sound like the Windows Contacts isn't something I
really need. Can anyone explain why it exists and what purpose it serves?
Because it sounds like I could do fine just deleting the whole thing. -J

It's there for people who don't use a PIM - just like Windows Addressbook
was there in Windows XP. You can't "delete" it AFAIK, you just have to
ignore it.

You can't delete the Windows Contacts. It's part of Vista. It exists for
use by Windows Mail, the mail/news client that is part of Vista. It's
available for those people who do not need a Personal Information Manager
like Outlook. If you don't need the integration Outlook provides, Windows
Mail should be sufficient.
