Ihave windowsMe installed on my c: drive (FAT32) &
WindowsXP on my D:(NTFS)
Last night I installed System commander & Partition
commander.
I have not run either one as I have not been able to start
up in XP I get the message that hal.dll is corupt or
missing.
I've run XP recovery console with the bootcfg /list and it
says that ther is no boot entries avalible to display (I
do not get a choice of drives in recovery console.

I can not find my second hard drive. When I try view D:
drive from the C:\> prompt I see the cd drive containing
my XP cd not my Hard drive

Did you follow the instructions for installing System Commander and
Partition Commander? It appears that System Commander over wrote the
boot sector on your C: drive where the boot information for both ME
and XP are located.

Try uninstalling both System Commander and Partition Commander - then
run the recovery console again to fix the boot sector.

Try using the System Commander\Partition Commander CD install program
to remove them. Whether you can "see" them or not doesn't really
matter. System Commander over wrote your boot sector on drive C.
Drive C is formatted to FAT-32 so you should be able to boot with a
Win98 EBD and "see" everything on that drive. Once you do a repair
of the boot sector with the recovery console, you should be able to at
least boot into XP. You may not be able to boot to ME.

Unless you intended to use System Commander as a boot manager, you
should not have installed it.

OK, understand. Just boot from your XP CD. After accepting the
license agreement, follow the prompts to do a repair install. Go
here: http://michaelstevenstech.com click on the tab that says
"repair install". Follow his instructions.

After repairing the system, you'll have to apply SP-1 and all critical
updates again. Once the system is repaired, you should be able to
boot into XP and once again "see" your D drive. Getting ME to boot
again is going to be another procedure - but you can worry about
that later on. From now on, be absolutely sure you have a backup
of your system before attempting to install software that can effect
the operation of your system.

I suggest you use imaging software such as Ghost, Drive Image, or
BootIt Next Generation to make a backup.

Regards, and good luck.
