missing all fonts; can't install new ones

My font folder is empty. Install a new font and it disappears when I go back
in to the folder. I am totally confused. My windows looks a mess, and half
of the text is in wingdings.ttf, I think.

Does anyone have a solution to this?

Give us some background information. What were you doing that led up to this
behavior?
