Mising theme components

Hi all

I am running FP2002, which is an upgrade over FP2000 full install on Windows XP Pro.

I have a theme that originally came with FP2000 which has become corrupt or I deleted them somehow. I suspect the theme cleaner I purchased has done away with them, but I can't prove it. I had run the theme cleaner to remove components of a previous theme that were unused. When it ran, it asked some very strange questions, none of which I THOUGHT related to this particular theme.... Who knows though. The theme's name is MODULAR. I have a live web using this them and I don't dare publish my changes until I get the theme restored back to it's original state.

I used to have active graphics in this theme. Now, the only graphics left are the normal vertical button and the global button. All of the vertical selected and hover buttons are gone. All of the horizontal (normal, selected and hover) are gone, as well as the banner graphic, horizontal line, list graphics, background, etc.... I've searched my hard drive to find ANY copy of the graphics that are mentioned in the modify theme screen. None of them are present anywhere, not even in my web

Now, the theme works partially because most of the individual graphics were created in the web itself before the theme became corrupt (ie: _derived is still intact). However, when I added new pages the active graphics are missing on the navigation bars for the those new page (select and hover), both horizontal and vertical. I don't happen to be using the banner or horizontal rule from this theme, so I don't have to sweat those.... but I do need the buttons.

Here is what I've tried so far

I did FP2002 Detect and Repair. No good
I uninstalled all themes from FP2002 and reinstalled them. No Good.
This is when I discovered the theme originally came with FP2000 and wasn't included with the FP2002 upgrade
I then located the MODULAR folder on the old FP2000 CD and copied the original modular.ini and modular.elm files into the folder on my hard drive where MODULAR is located, overwriting the files. It's an old FP2000 theme, so it's located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Themes\modular
I then created another NEW empty web with some dummy pages in it, added them to the navigation structure, added both horizontal and vertical navigation bars and then tried to apply the modular theme to it. No good. There simply are NO graphics in the theme, even with Vivid colors, Active graphics and Background image all checked. Nothing is in the theme except one vertical (normal) button.

Ok, so how do I restore a theme to it's original state when that particular theme came from a previous installation of the program. I don't dare try re-installing FP2000 after FP2002 has been installed. I SURE don't want to have to uninstall both, then reinstall them. I have a TON of themes which were purchased. I don't want to have to reinstall them all as well

IS there a way to get this modular theme back to the way it was originally

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

TIA
Pa

You will need to open the live site and publish it to your local machine,
overwriting your current local web copy, then re-do your changes.

Hi Thomas, thank you for responding.

Unfortunately, the web was published once sometime after the theme became corrupted. This is when I discovered graphics were missing. When I viewed the pages online, one button in the vertical navigation didn't "hover" like the rest. I just looked online in the _themes folder, and the list of graphics in there matches the ones on my web locally. I have amodvbtn.gif and modglobl.gif and that's it, so of course any new pages won't get an entry in the _derived folder for their respective active graphics. The old buttons are still there so they work, as they do locally because _derived is intact containing them.

Is there anywhere at microsoft to download the themes included with FP2000? I located the ones for FP98, but of course THAT theme wasn't in the list of themes included. I guess I don't understand why restoring the original .inf and .elm files from the FP2000 CD doesn't work. Could it be because there is a modular.utf8 file and a preview picture in the modular folder on my hard drive? Would removing that .utf8 file in the modular folder cause the theme to go back to it's original state? Isn't that a list of modifications made to the theme? I'm scratching my head here trying to think of a way to get this silly thing back to it's original state.

TIA,
Pat

You would have to re-install FP2000 to access the themes included with it,
then apply the theme, then open the site with the new theme in FP2002, at
which point FP2002 will convert the theme to the new FP2002 format.

You can not directly use themes from FP2000 in FP2002, since themes are
handled differently in FP2002 then FP98 or FP2000.

Note: The same applies with FP2003 and prior version themes.

Hi Thomas, thanks again for responding

I was afraid of that. I didn't want to have to go reinstall FP2000 after FP2002 has already been put on the system. I just KNOW I would have system problems because of it. I suppose the best thing to do would be to uninstall FP2002, then uninstall (if it's still on the list) and reinstall FP2000, then reinstall FP2002. After that, I get to go back to OfficeUpdate and play around for half a day. Then, I get to reinstall all of my FP add-ins and purchased themes. Hope I can find all of the originals! *** sigh *** :

Thanks again

I would never recommend installing an older version when a newer version is
installed, as you will have problems.

However, have you consider using a different theme, then you can avoid
having to re-install?

Hi again Thomas,

Yes, I knew there would be problems. That's why I was searching for a way to just fix that particular theme. You'd think that MS would have a themes download somewhere that contains all the themes from FP98, FP2000 and FP2002, all in FP2002 format. But, alas... I sure can't find one.

Yes, I considered changing the theme. After all, I only want the dang active graphics and rollover buttons! But, I LIKE that one! LOL!!! I just hate it when something is broke! :( Heck, for that matter, I could download the active graphics buttons from one that works correctly and edit them to remove the text, then save them in the names that the theme is looking for. Unfortunately, that won't fix the broken theme itself. :(

Thanks for all of you help Thomas, I appreciate it.

The text isn't really on the graphics, the graphics are blank - at least on my themes they are. I've manually repaired the .gif's in themes before, maybe you can try that?

The Modular Theme is a part of FP2002
Control panel - add remove components FP2002 and select add components and make sure your installation includes all themes
