I have an invisible spot on my hidden icons named mIRC Microsoft Windows.
Does anyone know what it is and how it got on my computer. Also, how do I
remove it if it is unwanted? Thanks, Clint

mIRC is an IRC chat program. If you don't use it, uninstall it from
Add/Remove Programs. If you didn't know what it is, then you don't use
it. ;-)

mIRC will not be found in add/remove programs. One can just delete the
mIRC folder (from where it is found) and any shortcuts for the program
itself.

Well, it's in Add/Remove Programs on my son's machine since he uses
mIRC. On a lot of OEM machines, there is just the folder as you
describe which has the installer in it. So the OP's mileage may vary.
Since the OP mentions that mIRC is apparently running, he will probably
find it in Add/Remove Programs. Either way, he can get rid of it.

Although, if Clint's computer is actively running mIRC and he doesn't
know what it is or actually installed it, it's possible he's infected
with viruses and/or malware.

Thanks for the info. After your reply, I booted my 98se machine (which I
keep for posterity and where I had originally installed mIRC) and it
indeed does list it in add/remove programs. However, on my xp machine,
where I looked before I posted to this thread, it is not found in
add/remove. What I based my post on was my experience that when I built
the xp machine, I just copied the mIRC folder (lock, stock and barrel)
from the 98 machine to the xp machine and proceeded to run it exactly as
it had been on the 98 machine, with all settings/etc in place. I just
now copied the mIRC folder from my xp machine to my vista rc2 machine,
and it works as it does on the xp machine and is not to be found in
add/remove. Sometimes experiences differ widely. :)
