Minor glitch(?) when starting IrfanView

I'm using IrfanView 3.99 on my Windows XP SP2 desktop computer. I've
been using IrfanView for about four years and find it quite useful.

Just recently, I noticed a very minor but peculiar glitch: when I launch
IrfanView from my Quick Launch toolbar, the program takes about 5 seconds to
load. Normally, it would launch immediately. Other shortcut programs on my
Quick Launch toolbar start normally. My computer is fairly new, Pentium D
processor at 3.0Ghz, 2GB of system RAM. There is also a slight delay in
starting IrfanView when I launch it from a desktop icon. Any ideas why the
program suddenly has this delay? I emailed the creator of IrfanView, who
was kind enough to respond. However, his suggestion was not able to fix
this.

It appears Windows Defender was causing this slight delay in IrfanView
running.
