minor bios or mbr corruption

I have a minor problem that I cannot resolve.
I have been using the Imation USB flash drive for some time.
SP2 installation conflicted with the flash drive and Imation say they
are working on a new software release and recommended uninstalling the
imation software for the time being. This uninstall worked sweet on my
laptop, but on my main PC running the same version of Winxp pro the
uninstall seems to have changed something.
In every regard my system still runs fine.
The problem:
Each time I now boot the system it displays Verifying DMI pool data
and then (a new line) Boot from CD:
Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter.
I ignore this prompt and just press enter once then screen says Boot
from CD which after a few seconds disappears and Win XP pro continues
to load and run as normal.

The bios all looks normal with the standard boot sequence (cd, floppy,
HDD), no disks in any drives, no virus etc so I can only assume the
imation software deinstall has left something behind.
I've tried changing the boot sequence and the above messages and
result are the same even though in one trial I made HDD the first boot
item.
Going back to an earlier system date hasn't help either.
Any advice appreciated please.

Regards

Peter

Thanks for the lead! Regret no luck.
I read about every article I can search further on the subject also.
Have done fixmbr and fixboot, neither fixes the problem.
I'm loathe to try anything too drastic as in effect apart from now
having to hit the enter key once during boot up, the system is running
perfectly.
Not knowing what the imation software does...or has left behind... I
wonder if reinstalling the software and trying another uninstall, or
disconnecting the cd and let the system reset bios etc, then putting
it back to autodetect new hardware...possibly lame ideas but as I say
trying to find safe type fixes.
Further ideas appreciated please.

I am living with the same exact problem and have been for at least a year.
I installed WinXP home from an OEM CD, then I applied SP1. So I don't know
if SP1 caused it or if the OEM version is at fault or what but as much as it
bothers me I don't want to reinstall everything either since all I have to do
is leave the boot CD in the drive.

If you find a fix to this annoying issue, I beg you to share it because I
can't find anything on the Kb or on the internet about this.
