Minimizing windows and they disappear

Every time I minimize a window, instead of it appearing on my tool bar at the
bottom of my screen, it completely disappears! When I go to my task manager,
though, it says that that application is still there and running. How do I
get things to reappear in my tool bar?

Sure, this fixes the problem, but it also means that I have to completely
re-configure my task bar. For example, it brings it back to a single line
(I like two lines of buttons), it removes all the options I had selected,
etc.

I'm sure I could adapt the script to reset my taskbar to the configuration
I like. Where is the information about bar size, etc. stored? I cannot
find a registry entry for that.
