minimized window upon opening an IE shortcut on my desktop

I have been using IE for may years with no problems. Two
days ago, out of the blue, when I tried to access an IE
shortcut on my desktop it would not fill the entire
screen. Instead a window of about 1" square appears. I can
maximize this window with no problem.

If click on the IE icon first, it will open normally. If
I choose a favorite, it will also open normally. If I
choose a second favorite, it will open only the 1" window.

If I open an IE shortcut first, it will only open to the
1' window. If I then try to open IE itself, it will also
only open to the 1" window.

Is there something I can do within IE to correct this
problem? Should I download IE 6 again? Any advice,
suggetions sure would be appreciated
 
Try stretching the small window to full size. (Do not use Maximize)
Ensure that window is the last one closed and IE should remember the
size next time.
