Minimized apps

If I minimize an application the Task Manager shows it as running -- what is
meant by that?
 
To minimize an application means to remove the application's window from
view while leaving the application running.
 
Thanks Ted but is the minimized app. using resources - the cpu useage in TM
stays at 99% system idle

Yes, it is still using resources.

Maybe or maybe not. If there are no messages to the program it will eventually be swapped out and will take 0 bytes of memory.

System Idle is the amount of time the processor has spare. In this case programs are only using 1% of the CPU time.
