does one open a minidump file to view it's contents.

This dump is produced from an earlier error or crash.
If you're not interested in debugging, you can delete the dmp
files.

It is a picture of the content of core information in memory at the time
the dump was made (at a crash). It is only really of use in sending it
to Microsoft in a report of the error
