Minesweeper Not Responding

I installed the Windows Vista OEM on a new PC (3200 Celeron) 1 gig of
memory, a 256 meg graphics card and the one really annoying problem is the
simple game of Minesweeper keeps hanging up after I've played it (usually
not even letting me finish a whole game). I do not see any other postings
related to this but this game should easily run with the setup I have. Does
anyone have any ideas of how to make the game behave?

Thank you.

Gawd! Wasn't that application coded back in the days of Windows 3.1? Don't
tell me MickeyMouse is still bundling that with their latest toy operating
system! How innovative they are. It makes the mind spin.

Cheers.

The "Wow" starts now.

Windows is not a virus! Viruses are small, efficient and built to get a job
done. Windows on the other hand ...

Yes, by gawd, it is! It's a bit glitzier looking than it used to be but it's
the same old program. :)

These answers were funny but not very enlightening. Does anyone have a
serious answer to this issue? By the way, there are probably other programs
that are hanging up. I can't imagine I'm the only one experiencing this.

Thank you.

Freecell got itself in some sort of weird state where it was behaving
badly. I fixed it by deleting its config files in my AppData\Local
directory. You might try the same with minesweeper.

Thank you for the tip. Unfortunately it is still doing the same thing. I
am wondering if this is a driver problem with my video card. I do have the
latest vista drivers though. I just don't get it. Other things run slow on
this machine also but so far minesweeper is the only program that keeps not
responding.

Any other ideas?

You are not the only one with this problem. I have the same problem.
Minesweeper hangs in the middle of a game. This happens REGULARLY. It is
highly annoying. My computer has an Intel Core 2 E6700 processor, 2 gig ram,
NVidia GForce 7900 GS video card.

The only other problem I am seeing with Vista is that the computer hangs but
then recovers (in less than 60 seconds - seems like a lifetime) after coming
off of hibernation.

To the others: It may be 'uncool' and old technology but I like
minesweeper. I also like a lot of other 'uncool' old stuff!! Laugh all you
want.

I'm having this same problem, but only in advanced mode, after I am about 80%
complete. This is a brand new install of vista home premium running on
2.13GHz Core 2 Duo, 2 GB of RAM, and a e-GeForce 7950 GT KO video card. This
is rather anoying. Hope somebody has the fix for this issue...

I've had the same problem on a Dell M90 with Vista Business since day 1. This
is a Core Duo (T7600), 2.33GHz with 2G ram. The display adapter is an NVidia
Quadro FX 1500M.

There seems to be a correlation with how quickly you play. I've given up
trying to beat my old XP time (128s), and just try to get thru the game
(usually while waiting for something else, like an e-mail response). Even so.
it hangs about 80% of the time if the game goes on long enough.

On at least two occasions, simply bringing up task manager and selecting End
Task was enough to wake it up (like it was afraid of being caught playing
hooky! ;-). And once I managed to minimize it, then came back an hour later
and was able to complete the game.

There's clearly a problem, probably thread related, with responding to
right-clicks on unmodified cells.

I know its only a game (and a clunky one at that), but MS should at least
put an intern on it and see what they can find.
