Migration from WORD 2000 to WORD 2007

I am considering migrating from WORD 2000 to WORD 2007 and I noticed that
WORD 2007 is very different from WORD 2000.

Is it possible to use with WORD 2007 –

A. MACROs created in WORD 2000.

B. TEMPLATES (*.dot files) created in WORD 2000.

The EQUATION EDITOR is a major problem as WORD 2007 has a new equation
editor that is incompatible with previous versions of equation editors.

A. Is there an option to ACCESS and to EDIT equations created in documents
written in WORD 2000?

B. Is there an option to use the “old†version of the equation editor rather
than the new editor for writing equations?

Is there a comprehensive document that can assist with migration from WORD
2000 to WORD 2007?

Thank you for your help.

Yes (in general) to all your questions except the last since documentation
is rather spotty.

WORD 2007 is very different from WORD 2000.

A. MACROs created in WORD 2000.

Yes, with some exceptions. If the macros deal with some features that have
changed, such as CommandBars, they may need to be rewritten.
B. TEMPLATES (*.dot files) created in WORD 2000.

Yes, no problem there.
The EQUATION EDITOR is a major problem as WORD 2007 has a new equation
editor that is incompatible with previous versions of equation editors.

A. Is there an option to ACCESS and to EDIT equations created in documents
written in WORD 2000?

B. Is there an option to use the “old” version of the equation editor rather
than the new editor for writing equations?

Yes to both. To get the old equation editor running, click Insert > Object >
Object and choose it from the list. If it isn't in the list, you need to rerun
the Office setup program and add the feature. Alternatively you can get MathType
from http://www.mathtype.com.
Is there a comprehensive document that can assist with migration from WORD
2000 to WORD 2007?

There are lots of documents, although not specifically for Word or specifically
for 2000 to 2007. Start at
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc303401.aspx.

Don't migrate to 2007 unless you have to. I and everyone I work with have
been struggling for months to get back to the same level of competence and
productivity we enjoyed with 2000 and 2003. I think it will never happen.
