migration AD 2000 to 2003

hello,

i'm testing the migration of an AD 2000 to 2003.

i made adprep /forestprep --> ok
adprep /domainprep /gpprep --> ok (with cd 2003 R2)

normally i'm supposed beeing able to put an DC 2003 after replication
have been done between all DC servers.

i have already checked in the ADSI editor the revision parameters written in
the document q309628 (operation performed....)

My question is: i'd like to know how you can verify that replication has
been successful between DCs, meaning, what do i must check on the others
DCs to check that they are now prepared ?

some OU are supposed to be created but i don't see anything.

thanks for any help...

Patrick.

hello Jorge,

thank you for your information.
unfortunatly i had already checked those points.
i preprared my AD 2000 and checked it successfully.

in fact when i try to promote a windows 2003 SP1 R2 from member to DCs
in my AD 2000 prepared with adprep, i get the following message:

"the AD's schema of the source forest is not compatible with the AD's version
of this computer" (meaning my windows 2003 server)

i don't see why because the preparation is fine..
the adprep/ domainprep is supposed to create new OU and objets (i don't know
which one and i didn't see any after the preparation).

could you tell me :

which objet and OU are supposed to be created ?
a different manner to check the preparation is fine ?
why i get the message of imcompatible version..(my 2 DC 2000 are SP4)

thanks in advance for your answer..

Im currently planning a migration from 2k to 2k3 --

two questions ?

is it worth on an active directory perspective, to go with r2 ? i have
a medium environment with about 250 workstations and users.

i've never seen the switch adprep /domainprep /gpprep -- what is that ?
do i run that instead of adprep /domainprep ?

Thanks,

Thanks Jorge!

Looks like a great read.

quickly -- does adprep /domainprep /gpprep replace the need to run just
adprep /domainprep ?

I'm not sure what the gpprep does although i can guess it updates the
GPO archictecture from 2k to 2k3

Thanks,

ADPREP /FORESTPREP does the AD schema
ADPREP /DOMAINPREP does the AD domain itself
ADPREP /DOMAINPREP /GPPREP does the SYSVOL of the AD domain

Jorge --

The hotfix would apply only if i received the errors indicated or
through your experienced ? or should i apply it ?

I'm a bit confused, i have all win2k machines, and this hotfix would
adjust the adprep version, but how would i apply it if i don't have a
win2k3 machine and i'm running adprep directly from the cd
