migrating workgroup computers to Active Directory on Win 2003

When I am joining computers to an Active Directory domain running on Windows
2003 server, the local computer desktops seem to be overwritten. This is
probably an obvious question, but how do I preserve local user and desktop
settings as I join workstations to the Active Directory domain?

After you join a domain a new profile is created on the computer for the
users domain account. The users previous profile should still be available
when the user logs on locally instead of onto the domain. There is a
feature in Windows that allows you to copy profiles. You should be able to
copy the old profile. The following article explains how

Thanks, I was afraid of that, I got the same answer in the other active
directory newsgroups. Is there no way to automate this though? When you
have 100 workstations and multiple profiles, this can become tedious
quickly.
