Active Directory and Exchange migrations

I have a windows 2000 AD domain and Windows 2000 Exchange org.

I plan to move to a Windows 2003 domain and Windows 2003 Exchange org.

Requirements
1. change the Active directory domain to new name
2. Keep the same smtp email domain for new exchange org
3. Perform migration in stages

Can someone point me to 2-3 different migration approaches using same or
different hardware?

Web links would be great

Thank you,

John

I can see two approaches - depending if You want to stick to Your
current forest and Exchange org or you want to build a new one.

In current forest You should perform upgrade with following schema:
- upgrade Your forest schema to windows 2003 \ Exchange 2003 level.
- introduce windows 2003 as DC in Your forest
- introduce Exchange 2003 in Your fores (you can add additional machine
and move mailboxes or You can perform in-place upgrade of Your existing
machines.

And as an addition my blog post about process of extending the schema:

For migration to new forest and exchange org You have to build new
forest and exchange org and then move Your resources with ADMTv3 and
Exchange mailbox migration wizard. But I don't think that You are
planning this operation.

This was perfect

Thank you.

One quick question if I were to do the latter which is move to a new forest
and exchange org my guess would be to keep the old exchange org up allowing
incoming mail and setup the out of office admin to notify the users of the
new email address and forward the email to the new email?

Thanks a lot

John
