Migrating my Outlook 2002 data files .pst to Outlook 2003

I have a "fresh install" of Win XP and Office 2003. I backed up my Outlook
2002 Personal Folder, prior to the fresh install. I have tried to convert the
Outlook 2002 .pst (97-2002) folder I backed up to the new .pst format using
the Microsoft instructions. I first open a new .pst file in Outlook 2003 and
then tried to import the Outlook 2002 .pst in to it., but It failed to save
the file to the new folder every time. Are there other ways (more detailed
steps) as to how to bring an existing Backup Personal folder (97-2002)
Outlook 2002 to my new (empty now) Personal Folder in Outlook 2003? Thanks in

I know that there are some instructions on Microsoft pages that
recommend this procedure. However, most regulars in this user groups
will strongly discourage you from using the Import function for this.

Better and easier: open both old (97-2002) and new (2003) PST files with
Outlook, then copy (drag-and-drop) all the data you want to transfer to
the new PST file.

There were some "good" instructions on the Microsoft website, but I am
unable to find it right now.

Thanks for you answer. Outlook 2003 will not open the (97-2002) PST file in
order to drag and drop to the new PST Outlook 2003 file.

Well it should do. How are you trying to open it, what error messages are
you getting (if any) and where is the file located?

Make sure that the file is not read-only, i.e. after transferring via
CD-ROM.
