Migrating Favorites from XP to Vista

I have tried to copy the favorites but failed. Although the help says that
you can migrate favorites from an earlier version of windows, it recognizes
only bookmark extension. Any help your be appreciated.

Did you try using IE's File | Import and Export to export them on the old
machine?

Hi Michael,

There are two ways you can do it. Copy the favorites folder from your XP
installation into your Vista installation and overwrite the corresponding
one in your user profile, or export the bookmark file from XP and import it
under Vista (you just have reactivate the file menu in IE).

When you say it 'failed', what exactly did it do? I have copied favorites
from XP to the Vista Favorites folder several times, it is just like copying
any other files.

I have done what I have always done before - copied the entire Favorites
folder onto my external portable HD. However, the Favorites folder from the
previous OS was also migrated inside the Windows.old folder. I tried to
migrate the content into Vista but it does not recognize it. It looks for
"bookmark" files'

I tried to copy the Favorites using Vista's own file transfer system, which
does not to recognize the Win2K/XP Favorites file format extension. It is
looking for bookmarks.

You must have something special going on. I just dragged and dropped my
favorites folder from my XP disk to my Vista disk\user\username\favorites
folder. worked with both Vista32 and 64

AFAIK copying the folder does not work but copying the contents of the
folder does work. The Import and Export route is better, though.
