midi to wav conversion

After getting answers(thanks again) to a previous post about embedding, I
downloaded a program called "WinGroove". I converted a midi file to a wav.
Since it is a trial version, it will only let me record a 30 second wav. It
worked and is 30 seconds long but the wav file is 5 MB! All my other wav's
are in the kb zone size. Did I do something wrong, and is there a way to
get this size down?
thanks

There's a thing that will take an MP3 and put a WAV header on it. You get
the small size of the MP3 and the embeddability of the WAV.

I think if you go to http://www.pptfaq.com and type "sound across slides"
(without quotation marks) in the search box there, you'll see FAQ 047. It
should have info on this utility.

To save the searching, go here http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00155.htm

That won't help with a Midi file though. A midi is not really a sound
recording. It is a specially coded file in a "midi language" that can be
translated into signals that are sent to a sound card. That coding would need
to be translated. Translating a midi to a WAV file can sometimes be
satisfactory, but it will always result in a file that is huge relative to the
size of the midi.

Thanks, Michael. I couldn't open IE at the time I was posting.

Sure. I guess I just assumed that if we can convert a MIDI to a WAV, we can
probably convert a MIDI to an MP3. But I'll freely admit I've never tried to
do so.

Did a Google search Midi to MP3, and the number of hits is out of this world.
Looks like it is very doable.
