Midbar Player?

Eric

Yesterday, I inserted a newly purchased CD into my CD-ROM
and used Windows Media Player 8 (XP) to play it. Then it
asked me to press "OK" to download some updated files
needed to play the CD. Afterwards, a strange player
popped up and played the CD for me. I don't know what
that is and I cannot find a way to uninstall it. The
player still pops up every time I insert THAT CD (this
doesn't happen on other CDs) even I have upgraded it to
Windows Media Player 9. Has anyone experienced this
before?

Further investigations. This was a "Copy controlled" CD
beware all other users. To see the logo go to
www.ifpi.org don't put any CD into your pc that has this
label you may have the same probs. See also
www.bmg.copy_control.info and many other websites hit
with copyprotect or copycontrol. These explain what's
going on but don't give an answer to our problems. Other
thoughts,a the CD does not play in my car.b Midbar tech
has an agreement with microsoft. c no warning or
explenation on the sleeve note. COPY CONTROLLED TM seams
to be a UK & EUROPE thing, it must be heading to the USA
soon. Any help apreaceated.

Eventually i have recovered the sound quality by
using "system restore" to an earlier time. Initally this
had not worked after a two days in the past restore.
However i discoverd another CD that i had loaded onto my
hard-drive that was also copy contolled. This particular
CD was had not crashed WMP but may have contained the
same "Cactus - midbar" software.
Check your CD collection for any COPY CONTOLLED lables
and restore the system past the time your have played
them on your PC. This did the trick for me, hope this
works for you.
