Micsrsoft Anti-Spyware (beta) BEWARE

It did the job of finding and cleaning out all
the "unsavory" files on my compuer. BUT it disbaled by
network connection as well. Spent an hour on the phone
with Comcast to get it back.

I admit, I did not check the box that asked if I wanted to
create a restore point, but as a intermediate user, I did
not have the knowledge to know what in the list of files
found NOT to dlelete to avoid this maor problem.

Be careful when using this new, but promising program from

This is a known problem, unfortunately. If you search Help, under Known
problems, I believer there's a link to the relevant KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892350

I'm interested in whether Comcast support did "the right thing" and led you
to this article, or one of the third-party utilities that manage similar
fixes? If what they suggested was a System Restore, that will fix things,
but also put back the removed spyware.

Be assured that Microsoft is aware that this is not the experience that
users appreciate--and expect to see some change before the product is
released.

I am still trying to see whether my interruption of my Internet access is
due to MSAS or my ISP.
I am on a adsl connection, connecting using a wireless adsl router. Every 2
hours or so, my ISP would kick me off and reconnect me (without my
knowledge)
Thus if I leave my computer on and don't use it for a number of hours, my
connection goes down. I have to disconnect the connection and reconnect via
the Wireless network connection.
Will try to keep a log of my present IP and see whether it changes every 2
hours

my IP have changed via this connection and I think my ISP is responsible. I
guess that they do not want users to use the connection as a server :)

I suppose the next thing to do is to note the time and new IP address.

Any recommendations on software that can track changes to my IP everytime my
ISP does that?

Your aDSL router needs to be configured to maintain your connection. It
sounds like it is currently configured to drop the connection after it has
been idle for a set time. You can chenge that to remain connected, then you
won't change your ip address every time you reconnect like now. What is
your aDSL router? I'll look up how to change that setting unless you are
confident you can handle it.

Let me know!

Comcast have problem:

http://isc.sans.org/

Comcast Problems

We have received a couple of inquiries regarding the
unavailablity of Comcast. Apparently Comcast is experiencing
problems nationwide due to an equipment update. This does
not appear to have any connection to the DNS Cache Poisoning
that we have been following over the last few days.
The Comcast technical problems should be resolved shortly
and all will return to normal.

That's correct, but that isn't D@nnyBoy's problem.

I believe it is........ Comcast probably running DHCP and
beacuse
of this problem I think it is a DHCP renew problem not a ADSL
connection problem. I have had the same problem with my ISP
after going over to ADSL2+ connection. 24/1 Mbits

Well, cablemodem connections in my country are also using
DHCP with
renew every 30 minute or hour.

I think DannyBoy can check his XP logfile and see what DHCP
is doing.

He can also use Ethereal to see details about this traffic
if it is disturbed.

2. Logon with user name of admin and the password is password.
3. Click the WAN button on the left
4. In the PPP section of this page ensure:

5. Click SUBMIT button at the bottom.

If you want it, the User Manual is at:

Let me know how it goes for you!

D@nnyBoy is not in an area served by Comcast, I believe. You may be right
that the issue is a DHCP problem, though. My impression is that Comcast's
problem is their DNS servers, however. I haven't read the link you
published, but I've seen notes from others stating that switching to public
DNS servers fixes the problems for them.

Well, you can also see Comcast users with DHCP problem
within DSLreports forum.

Maybe Comcast renewing IP adresses with 2 hours timespan ?

When I was with Comcast I always had problems when I used their DNS servers.
I always used a couple of UUNet caching servers instead.

Dunno how you feel about security, g is nice, but WPA is important too.
They will both be there, but you may need to think about the client end as
well, in terms of WPA (and g, for that matter!)

Brandon

some Routers have a built in option to renew a client's
connection every day hour or any number of those two so 2
days 3 days 2 hours 3 hours etc if using DHCP so you
might check this. usually by going to the ip of your
router in windows explorer maybe 192.168.1.1 that is the
most common default to my knowledge.
