I recently purchased windows xp home edition and tried to
load it on my wifes computer. It keeps hanging up because
it cannot find a necessary file to continue set up. I
loaded the program on my computer without any problems. I
am unable to get out of the set up mode on her computer.
The current OS on her computer is windows whistler xp
home edition

Are you booting to WXP's CDROM or trying to run setup.exe after
launching the current OS?

Probably your wife's computer has bad hardware. When MS operating
systems fail to install, the first likely culprit is bad RAM, with the
hard drive following. Do some hardware diagnosis, starting with the
RAM.
