Microsoft XP after Vista

C

circlebbart

I have been running Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 4600 system for
over 3 years with no problems. Since the release of Vista, I have had
significant performance problems with XP, in particular Internet
Explorer and Outlook Express.

I have been told that the problem is the 2 products are not compatible
and that microsoft automatic downloads since the release of Vista are
the cause of my problems.

Has anyone else experienced these problems?

What?

Did you install Vista as an upgrade over XP?

Are you asking that since the release of MS Vista, does windows update some
how break XP ?

That might just be one of the craziest conspiracy theroies I've heard all
week. I've not had any issues with Xp sicne the release of Vista and I dual
boot the OSes. Odds are, you might have just picked up some malware or other
little internet nasty around the launch time.

Unless there was some kind of bug, where some updates to Vista somehow got
applied to XP, I don't see how you would there would be a problem. Though it
does make for a good CT against MS

I've seen a few WinXP issues reported
that were corrected by uninstalling IE7...
mainly relating to Windows Movie Maker.

You can uninstall IE7 from your XP system...
If you would like to give it a try...have a look
at the following article:

Also...if you have specific WinXP issues...it
might be worth a try to post them in an appropriate
newsgroup.

You installed internet explorer 7 because microsoft PUSHED IT in the
automatic
updates. This was a blundering mistake on part of microsoft.

You can uninstall internet explorer 7 from the add-remove programs....

you can post your problems on the internet explorer newsgroup...
Perhaps they can help there, but its a jungle in that newsgroup.

IE7 has create a huge amount of havoc.

I have it installed on XP but I use www.avantbrowser.com for browsing.

The only good way I have found to install IE7 is directly after a fresh
install of XP.

Its not crazy.. its IE7 that has created a huge amount of problems.. go to
the IE newsgroup
and hang around there and you will see how the poor XP users are suffering
from this
monstrosity....

Ie7 was part of the XP autoupdate... many thought it was ok and installed
it... and to their
horror 100 things broke on their machines. Thats why he says "since vista
came out"
IE7 for XP was released about the same time vista was released.

What a load of crap! IE7 came out in a Beta version last year, and the final
version was released last year, NOT when vista was released. Absolutely
nothing wrong with IE7 in XP. Learn how to use a computer before you make
wild and untrue accusations. I run XP with IE7 on 1 comp, and vista on the
other with IE7.

LOL! You are telling ME to learn how to use a computer?
I know more about computers than 100 of you.
You see 100 fools does not make 1 smart person.

Stop the crap and drag your butt to the ie newsgroup sit there for a while
and see what is going on before you open your maw and let blabbering
nonsense come out!
I respect people from australia... I love them... its only you that I am

Kirk, in all fairness, if you install IE7 properly there are no
problems. Problem is that MS doesn't tell their paying customers how to
install it and people have problems with it. The culprits for messing up
the IE7 installation are malware, add ons and not disabling the AV and
anti spyware/malware apps. When the install for IE7 comes up, users
should be forced to read a pop up that explains what to do to prepare
for installing it but that would mean that MS cares for their paying
customers and this is just more evidence that they only care about money.

Alias... I know that.. thats why I install ie7 after a fresh format...
but I think about it twice before I install it on a clients computer...

too many things can go wrong.. there are many things that can break..
Its not only malware and add ons... there are whole programs that dont work
with IE7...

If I dont have the time to fiddle with a problem, and the machine has to be
working I dont experiment with IE7 installations, or at least I make a
restore point before I attempt installing the dreaded thing.

What you say is theoretical... most people of the world don't know
much about browser versions and compatibility problems...
they may run into one of the thousand things that may go wrong,
and they get frustrated.....

That is why it was VERY important MS to make it an OPTIONAL installation,
and not have autoupdate download it, even though
IE7 asked you before you installed, that is a very stupid excuse.
Many people see something new, and trust MS and say.. ok if they give me
this update lets go ahead and do it....

well this IE7 monstrosity has created hundreds of thousands of problems...

IT HAS BUGS, LOTS OF THEM...

I was in the IE newsgroup for a long time seeing the reaction of people to
IE7. They absolutely hated it....
The outcry from the people was huge.. im not kidding here.

I personally don't really care, since I don't use IE7 because of its
horrible interface. I use avantbrowser that is a shell, and firefox.

I do however install ie7 on MY machines after fresh install of XP, I would
even slipstream it at some point. I don't use it though... Avant uses the
ie7 engine and has a far better interface, and firefox is also very good....

I have to say that Ie7 drove more people to firefox than would ever go if it
wasnt for Ie7! lol

Why? Well they installed ie7 and they liked the tabs idea.. but ie7 was
crappy, and they didnt want to lose the tabs and go back to ie6, so they
uninstalled ie7 and downloaded
FF 2.0 that was stable and had tabs.... I havent been in the ie newsgroup
for a while now... but I can imagine people
are still having problems.

MS isn't pushing it through WU anymore but they do list it as a High
Priority update with no real installation instructions. I've installed
it but I only use it for updates and Fire Fox is my default browser.

So, in summary....

NO, the launch of Vista has NOT caused a problem with XP installations.

YES, the launch of IE7 - pushed through Windows Update - HAS caused problems
in XP for SOME people.

Ok great.. here is a question for you since you are a not biased...

How does the startup times of firefox seem to you?
They seem to me sluggish on my machine... I use a tray extension that
places FF in the tray when you press close instead of unloading it from the
ram, to avoid the sluggish launch again...

what is your thoughts on this? Also tell me your machine specs...
Do you have many extensions installed, and have you seen a reduction in
speed if you load too many?

Whenever I mentioned sluggish launch times for FF in other newsgroups the
wanted to lynch me...

thanks

That's exactly why I stopped using Firefox. I have a habit of closing
programs I'm not using and every time I fired up Firefox I had to wait
for it to load. On the other hand IE7 loads almost immediately. While
I'm no big fan of IE7 it does what I need it to do.

IE 7.0 has caused significant problems on many of my customer's
computers. It does not help that MS has once again moved it from the
optional to the critical updates. Since explorer is a component of the
OS, bugs affect the entire system.
Sometimes:
Control Panel wont load.
Windows Explorer hangs.
Explorer wont connect to the internet, or connects very slowly.
Other strange crashes, etc, that cease once IE 7.0 is removed.
I cant help but think that some of the Vista problems that people are
experiencing is directly related to this browser, which in the case of
Vista, can not be removed.

I understand that many like to bottom post.. but you should snip ...
that was a looooonngg journey to find your reply

Have you tried avantbrowser.com ????
I love it!

I like how you completely ignored the fact that IE7 was released long before
Vista. Maybe it's things like this that make people want to tell you to
learn?
Stop the crap and drag your butt to the ie newsgroup sit there for a while

While I would not say there is "nothing" wrong with IE7, just because the
people in the IE7 NG are having trouble doesn't mean "everyone" is.

Unfortunately, I don't assume that he loaded IE 7 and that if he did, he
loaded when it was first released. If he ties in his problems with Vista's
release then I can only address that.

I don't use IE7 (except when running vista), so I don't know about all these
problems.
