Would Microsoft Word 2003 open a Microsoft Works document?

Yes, assuming that you've already installed the Works text drivers
when you did your install. If not, you'll have to install them by
putting in your disk again and adding them.

To see what you have, click File > Open and click the drop down for
File Types and see if the version of Works you want is listed.
