Microsoft Works 8 Spreadsheet

I spent quite a bit of time typing up a spreadsheet. When I go to print it a
message pops up "Microsoft Works 8 has stopped working. A problem caused the
program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify
you if a solution is available."

I've got a brand-new HP computer with Vista already installed. Why can't I
print a simple spreadsheet?

What good is a spreadsheet if I can't use it? Why is it in Vista then?

What version of Works do you have?

I have MS Works Suite 2006 (which says it is Works 8.5) installed on
VISTA Business and so I just started it up, opened (since I don't yet
have any created in Works) an Excel spreadsheet I could access and
printed it.

It printed OK and Works was still running afterwards so there would
seem to be nothing inherently wrong with Works and VISTA.

Since you spent quite a lot of time preparing the spreadsheet that will
not print I imagine it may be quite large. Perhaps you could try
opening a spreadsheet and just typing some junk into a few cells and
try printing that.

At least you are not alone as you will see if you do a Google on
[Microsoft Works 8 has stopped working]

Have a look at this newsgroup thread:

In this context (and ignoring the last message there saying it is the
fault of WORKS + VISTA <g>) what make and model of printer are you
using? Have you checked to see if there are updated VISTA drivers for
it on the manufacturer's website? Does it work OK with other documents?
What happens if you print a non-spreadsheet from WORKS?

Evie, have you found the root cause and corrective action for the
spreadsheet software to work correctly. My problem occurs when I tried to
align the text in a cell using Format/Alignment. I haven't tried to print
it. I am sure I will have the same printing problem like you.

I'm having the same problem. Our computer was purchased 1 day ago. It's a
Gateway. Anyway I can get into Spreadsheet but when I go to format the cells
I get the same message - that it has stopped working... Has anyone figured
out what's going on???

I did that and the test page wouldn't print. Went I went in to attempt to
print the spreadsheet it did this time open a printer window and I selected
the HP Photosmart 3310 that I have and the program still shut down and did
not print. I cpied the Exell file into Word and it prints it there but in so
small type you can't read it and all the column and cell lines print too.
Thanks.

Same problem with same new HP computer & micro vista system and only in
spreadsheet. Spent 3 hrs. on phone with concierge tech thru costco changing
default printer to no avail. I also can't even save the spread doc. He
finally downloaded 60 day trial version of XP which now allows me to work,
save and print docs. He said he viewed a "thread that indicated a problem in
vista with this program and would assume windows is working to correct as we
all seem to be having the same problem.. P.S also incurring problems with
Internet explorer 7 allowing uploads and downloads

I am having the same problem error message saying Microsoft Works 8 has
stopped working. Has anyone come up with a solution.

Only thing I learned on HP help chat was that they were aware of the problem
and were "working on it". That doesn't help me any, who knows how long that
will be. I can preview mine, but can't print it.

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?

Interesting -- so do I and I don't have a printing problem with an HP
LJ 2200d printer.

Re my first post, having tried several of the suggested solutions to the
problem of Works 8 shutting down, I just gave up and now use a free Google
spreadhseet, which works and prints just fine. Tired of waiting for a
"solution" from Microsoft.

I have the same problem and it is very frustrating. No one, either MS or
Toshiba can help me to print anything from Works 8.5 running Vista Home
Premium. What is wrong with MS? Why can't they address this problem?

OMG, I thought the post you wrote was written by me. I bought a new computer
and printer (both HP) in Feb. and it has been one headache after another. I
had all of my documents migrated to my new computer and the spreadsheets will
not open. These spreads represent 7 years of work. Now I'm also finding
that I cannot print any new spreads that I created on my 8.5. What a mess!!
Microsoft says it is HP's responsibility and HP says it is Microsoft's
responsibility. I'm caught in the middle. I am so sorry that I bought my
new computer after Vista came out. If I had purchased it only a week before,
I could have had XP again. And Microsoft thinks Vista is an improvment over
XP???

Spartan, There is now a fix. Go to microsoft.com/downloads and look for the
Works 8 area. I just downloaded and all is well. Good luck.

Thanks for the info, Bob. I'm headed over to that site right now. Cross
your fingers for me. If it doesn't work, I'm sure you will hear me scream
where ever you live.
