Microsoft Works is not part of Vista. It may have been bundled with Vista by
the manufacturer/supplier of your computer, if so then it may be on the
recovery disks supplied by the manufacturer/supplier or in the recovery
partition on your machine.

Have you read the documentation that came with your machine?

What is the make and model?

Have you tried to contact the manufacturer/supplier?

Does you computer have a Recovery Wizard, that you can use to recover just applications, choosing from a list of programs that came
with your computer?

First, understand, Microsoft Works is a separate application and is not a
part of Windows but some OEMs choose to bundle additional software with
their systems and, apparently, Works was bundled with yours. You'll need to
contact your computer's tech support, in order to find out how to restore
Works to your setup.

If you reinstalled Windows Vista, that doesn't also automatically
reinstall Works. If your computer came with Works, you should have
gotten a separate CD to reinstall Works.

Are vendors still doing that or will Works be on the recovery
partition? It will help if the OP will tell us the make and model of
the computer as GreenieLeBrun asked.

I'm not sure, but it probably depends on the vendor.

Compaq had all the added software on my recovery partition, no CD came
with the laptop IIRC. I think that's getting to be the normal method
now.

My HP gave me the option to burn 11 recovery CDs or 2 Recovery DVDs.
All factory installed software was included, but when you do a system
recovery, it restores it to original factory settings.
It formats the hard drive and reinstalls everything.
If you have data you want, burn it to CD or copy it to a removeable or
external hard drive.
